conversation after a coupla beers (paraphrased)
adambhalalough: my brother got snowed in for a week because of the weather - he started to get cabin fever pretty bad.
konradprojects: as an artist, i think cabin fever doesn't set in until about a week longer than most other people. (note: I was thinking this is because artists have something they are compelled to do with their free time)
adambhalalough: that's because artist's live with cabin fever everyday.

"We Are the World" Doppelgangers →
Humerous article from Black Book Magazine mentions The Carter, comparing Lil Wayne to Bob Dylan, noting how Wayne has taken Dylan’s role in the We Are the World song. Coincidence? I personally don’t think so… Each insolent geniuses in their own right, Wayne and Dylan are as enigmatic as they are prolific. Everyone who saw this year’s The Carter documentary couldn’t help but...

The Carter - Review - The Beacon
“Though this film has no distinct message, it paints Lil’ Wayne as somewhat of a troubled genius.” Full review: Lil Wayne. The name has become synonymous with revolutionary rap and shameless shirtlessness. Sadly, “The Carter,” a documentary about the rapper, doesn’t do much in the line of breaking any preconceived notions that you may have about Weezy; one of...

YEAST
In May of 2008 the generous staff of the Maryland Film Festival brought me down to Baltimore for a screening of The Upsetter. I arrived on the Amtrak a few hours early with time to kill and nothing to do. The theater on Charles Street where the festival was being held was literally around the corner from the Amtrak station. I wandered into the theater and after picking up the festival guide I...

Chances are it was...

The Carter - Review - Osqledaren (Sweden)

Danny Perez & Animal Collective recently premiered their new film or “visual album” as it’s described on their website. The Avant Guardian posts a strange but intriguing article (or should I say ‘essay’) that quotes directly from The Carter in multiple sections and uses Lil Wayne as an example of Guy Debord’s “The Society of the Spectacle” at work in 2010. Here are some interesting quotes from the essay/philosophical rambling: Today we will consider the possibility of being lost in...

Diplo Presents: Free Gucci (Best of The Cold War Mixtapes) sets the precedent for how albums should, and will, be created in this decade. Your favorite artist will be remixed by a variety of producers from around the globe, most of whom will never meet each other in person, some of whom wont even speak the same language. These songs will be collected into an “album” by a DJ (in...
